Karachi, November 5, 2026 — The Sindh government expects more than 100 electric buses to arrive by the end of November, Senior Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon announced during a review of the province’s public transport projects.
The planned fleet expansion is intended to increase passenger capacity and improve transport services, particularly in Karachi.
Double-decker buses are also expected to arrive as part of the government’s transport expansion plans.
Routes and Charging Stations
At a meeting held on November 4, Memon directed transport officials to finalise routes, charging stations, bus depots and passenger stops before the new vehicles arrive.
He instructed the department to prioritise routes connecting major roads, commercial districts, educational institutions and densely populated residential areas.
The arrangements are intended to ensure that the buses can enter service without avoidable delays after delivery.
Red and Yellow Line BRT Projects
The meeting also reviewed progress on Karachi’s Red Line and Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit projects.
Officials were directed to accelerate construction on the Red Line and prioritise completion of the Yellow Line’s two depots, which are necessary for bus operations and maintenance.
The government also decided to open a U-turn constructed on University Road under the Red Line project to help ease traffic movement in the area.
Expanding Public Transport
The arrival of electric buses would add to Sindh’s existing efforts to introduce cleaner public transport and reduce dependence on conventional diesel-powered vehicles.
However, the buses will require operational routes, charging facilities and depot arrangements before entering regular passenger service.
The transport department has been instructed to complete these preparations alongside ongoing BRT construction.
