Islamabad, November 5, 2026 — Pakistan has disbursed approximately 52% of foreign financing committed to 40 ongoing power transmission projects, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Economic Affairs was informed on November 4.

The projects are supported by 17 loan agreements involving the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, France’s AFD, Germany’s KfW and Japan’s JICA.

Projects and Delays

The schemes include grid station upgrades, transmission network improvements and the CASA-1000 electricity transmission project.

Officials identified delayed government funding allocations, approvals, land access and security concerns as obstacles to implementation. Delays in obtaining no-objection certificates have also affected work at certain project sites.

The committee was told that ongoing projects have expected completion dates ranging from November 2026 to December 2028.

Another 38 transmission projects are under consideration, with proposed completion timelines extending to 2036.

Committee Review

The meeting, chaired by MNA Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, examined financing arrangements and implementation bottlenecks.

The committee called for stronger coordination to address delays and improve electricity transmission capacity and network reliability.
