Islamabad, November 5, 2026 — Pakistan is expected to host the G-24 Technical Group Meeting in February 2027, following its assumption of the intergovernmental group’s chairmanship on November 1.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reviewed preparations on November 4 during a virtual briefing with G-24 Secretariat Director Dr Iyabo Masha. Saif Ullah Dogar, Senior Adviser to the Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund, also participated.
Three Priorities for Pakistan
The government has identified three main objectives for its chairmanship:
- Development-led growth: Linking economic stability with investment, productivity and employment.
- Greater representation: Seeking a stronger role for developing economies in decisions made by international financial institutions.
- Financial reform: Advocating affordable development loans, sustainable debt solutions, stronger financial safety nets and climate financing.
February Meeting Preparations
The February technical meeting is expected to provide policy analysis for subsequent G-24 ministerial discussions held alongside the IMF and World Bank’s Spring and Annual Meetings.
Aurangzeb called for early preparations, broad participation and practical policy proposals.
Pakistan succeeded Nigeria as G-24 chair and will coordinate with member countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean during its tenure.
