ISLAMABAD, October 31, 2026 — International mining technology company Weir is exploring opportunities to expand its involvement in Pakistan’s minerals sector, following discussions with the federal government.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met JD Singleton, a senior Weir executive, on October 28 to discuss possible cooperation and the use of advanced mining technologies in Pakistan.
According to an official government statement, the meeting focused on opportunities in the country’s developing minerals industry and ways international companies could contribute technical expertise.
Weir supplies equipment and technology used in mining operations, including systems for processing minerals.
The company employs more than 11,000 people and operates in over 50 countries, according to the Petroleum Division.
During the meeting, the minister welcomed Weir’s interest and assured the company of government support for its engagement with Pakistan.
Weir also expressed an interest in building longer-term relationships with government bodies and industry participants.
The company is expected to take part in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2026, scheduled for November 12–13 in Islamabad.
Its delegation is expected to include Group Chief Executive Officer Andrew Neilson, while the company will participate as a platinum sponsor.
The discussions come as Pakistan seeks to attract international expertise and investment to develop its mineral resources.
Foreign mining technology could help companies improve how minerals are extracted and processed, although the benefits would depend on the projects and partnerships eventually agreed.
For now, Weir’s involvement represents exploratory cooperation and participation in the upcoming investment forum rather than a finalised investment commitment.
